The Question That Changed Everything

Sometimes a life’s direction changes because of a single question.
For me, it was this:
What would happen to our pets if something happened to us?
It wasn’t a theoretical question. It was created by a very real car accident. The question sat me bolt upright at 2 am. It followed me through my day, through the walk with my dogs, through quiet moments with my cats.

And the more I thought about it and researched, the more I realized how few people had an answer.
I recently had the opportunity to talk about this on a podcast with the awesome creators at Chapter One Films. How that question became AnimalCity, and why this work matters so much.
AnimalCity exists because of a gap most people don’t think about until it’s too late. We plan for our homes. We plan for our finances.

But for our pets?
Too often, the plan is:“Someone will take them.” Sometimes that works. Often, it doesn’t. And when it doesn’t, pets who have already lost their people are left navigating confusion, loss, and uncertainty all at once.
Creating AnimalCity wasn’t a straight or quickly drawn line. It came from a lifetime of loving animals, a growing awareness of how fragile our plans can be, and a deep belief that our pets deserve better than uncertainty.
They deserve a plan.
They deserve a path.
They deserve to be protected, no matter what happens.
In this conversation, we talk about:
How AnimalCity started
Why planning for pets matters more than people realize
What actually happens when there isn’t a plan
And how each of us can do something to make sure our pets are never left behind
If you have pets, this conversation is for you. If you love someone who has pets, it’s for you too.
Because the question isn’t if something unexpected could happen. It’s whether we’ve taken the time to plan for it.

What an important question to ask ourselves as pet owners! And yes, we probably plan for so many other things in our lives but may be neglecting one of the most important, our fur babies! Thank you for your wake up call and brilliant idea out of a tragic situation.
It was so scary getting into that accident. But nowhere near as scary as realizing ALL of our pets would go to animal control if we died.
