Spud is an 8-year-old Chihuahua with a tiny 8-pound body and a heart that needs a little time to feel safe.

After his person passed away in June, Spud was taken to animal control. The noise, activity, and unfamiliar surroundings were overwhelming for him, so we were grateful to move him into foster care fairly quickly.

Spud is very shy and uncomfortable in new situations. When he feels frightened or pressured, he may growl, snap, or act defensively, especially with people he does not know. He will need a patient, understanding adopter who is willing to give him space and allow trust to develop at his pace.

Once Spud decides you are his person, a completely different little dog appears. With someone he trusts, he is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and snuggly. He forms a strong bond and loves being close to the person who makes him feel secure.

Spud is otherwise healthy, up to date on vaccinations, and just had dental surgery for tooth extractions on July 29. He's healing up well and looking forward to meeting his new family.

Spud is not looking for a busy social calendar or a house full of strangers. He is looking for safety, patience, and one special person who understands that the best relationships are sometimes the ones you have to earn.
